Duchess of Cambridge brings back 90s hair trend during first work outing of 2017
Today, the Duchess of Cambridge resumed her royal duties for 2017 with a visit to the Anna Freud Centre in London, which she’s worked with on numerous occasions to raise awareness of mental health issues.
Wearing a £1,650 belted blue coat by Eponine, paired with teamed with her go-to navy pumps by Rupert Sanderson, Kate looked as elegant as ever for the trip to the children’s centre. But what we didn’t expect to see was the 35-year-old wearing butterfly clips – the hair clips that the female world couldn’t get enough of back in the 90s.
Back in the day, everyone from Sarah Michelle Gellar to Britney Spears used the iconic clips to twist their hair back and the accessories have made a comeback in the past year since 90s fashion reemerged on catwalks.
It’s not the first time the royal has brought back a retro trend. Last July, Kate was spotted wearing a hairnet during a commemoration service at the Somme – the type a ballerina might wear to fix her perfect bun in place.
But hey, anything the Duchess of Cambridge gives the royal seal of approval to must be a-go. So, butterfly clips and hairnets ahoy, we say.
The Duchess has kept a fairly low profile over the festive period, stepping out with her family on Christmas Day to attend church and to attend church at Sandringham on Sunday (where she caused a stir by wearing a real fur hat), ahead of her birthday on Monday.
