The fleece is back with a millennial makeover (and headbands, too)
No matter what the divisive item – be it corduroy or chunky trainers – you can always trust the supermodel set to bring it back with inimitable style.
So it’s hardly surprising to learn that the fleece is the latest ’90s reject to make a comeback this season thanks to a slew of paparazzi shots depicting usual suspects, Kendall and Gigi, in the fuzzy material.
Once reserved for winter nights in front of the telly or taking the dogs on brisk walk, the fleece has been given a millennial makeover – so our old zip-up sadly won’t make the Instagram cut.
Kendall Jenner was first spotted walking the streets of New York in a chunky fleece by Russian street style expert Gosha Rubchinskiy. Further demonstrating the humble sweater’s upgrade, the super teamed the look with a pair of cycle shorts, Jimmy Choo boots and a teensy Prada bag.
Thanks to the power of the Internet, the fleece has since sold out though those hoping to recreate the look will be pleased to learn that a red version is still up for grabs at £165.
Adding further fuel to the trend, Gigi Hadid sought inspiration from her model friend stepping out in a similar throw-on last month.
In true Gen Z fashion, she hid from photographers in micro sunnies – with snake print boots to finish.
But how can us mere mortals pull off the fleece, you ask?
Thankfully, the A-list trend has trickled down to the bloggersphere and our feed is grateful.
Jessie Bush took to Instagram to demonstrate how to wear the fuzzy trend in Uniqlo – which is a Mecca for those on the hunt for winter-ready fleece.

But if the fleece is a ’90s throwback too far then may we suggest tackling the trend with the help of the ‘teddy’ coat.
Fashion bloggers Alicia Roddy, Amy Shaw and Charlotte Martin have shown followers how to work the trend this winter via Instagram wearing looks by Boohoo and H&M.

But the fleece is not the only dose of nostalgia to hit the high street this season, as hairbands are also being eagerly saved on our Pinterest boards ahead of the festive season.

Think of the garish school headbands you had emblazoned with your name in glitter. This season, invest in satin, velvet and bejewelled options.
Turn to Accessorize for a minimal take on the trend while Jennifer Behr should be the fashion devotee’s first point of call.
