The meaning behind Beyonce's Brit Awards 2019 tribute to Meghan Markle
From Princess Diana to Fergie and Kate Middleton, the women of the British royal family have not been immune to the harsh criticisms thrown their way by the media and general public.
More recently, Meghan Markle has arguably been the target of the largest amount of hate as she prepares to welcome her first child ahead of her first wedding anniversary with Prince Harry.
But if there’s one thing the Duchess of Sussex’s subtle ‘appearance’ at the Brit Awards has reminded us, is that she’s got the support of some influential figures. I mean, it doesn’t get much bigger than Queen Bey!
During the Brit Awards on Wednesday, music’s power couple Beyonce and Jay Z made a major statement as they paid tribute to Meghan while accepting their award for Best International Duo.

Beyonce and her husband stood in front of a glamorous portrait of Meghan in a pre-recorded acceptance video which was then shared on Beyonce’s Instagram account.
“Thank you to the Brits for the award for Best International Group. I won this award back in 2002 with my besties, Kelly and Michelle. How lucky am I to have been in a group with my other best friend, the GOAT Hova,” wrote Beyonce.
“In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
Of course, the bold and unprecedented move sparked a frenzy of fan reactions on social media, with many pointing out just how ‘protected’ Meghan is by these global superstars.
“Meghan Markle is now under the protection of the Beygency,” wrote one fan.

“Omg I love this picture of Meghan. If anyone mess with Meghan I know Beyoncé and Jay Z have her back alright,” penned another.
What’s more, Meghan’s trip to New York for her star-studded baby shower also demonstrates the immense support she has from other global figures with tonnes of influence.
The likes of tennis legend Serena Williams, George Clooney’s wife Amal Clooney, and Gayle King attended the event and proved they’ve got the Duchess’ back.
However despite her famous friends’ support, the hate is always going to hurt and no one, whether they are royal or not, deserves that.
