Sky Cinema and NOW February 2023: Movies and TV from Funny Woman to Top Gun: Maverick
Gemma Arterton leads new TV series Funny Woman, while Sky Cinema brings Tom Cruise's box office juggernaut to the small screen
It's another busy month on Sky Cinema and NOW, headlined by the arrival of 2022's box office phenomenon Top Gun: Maverick for streaming. Tom Cruise reprises the titular role of the ace pilot, who is this time tasked with teaching some talented newbies how to handle themselves in the air.
Elsewhere, Sky Cinema original movie The Independent stars John Cena as an independent candidate running to be US president, with Jodie Turner-Smith as the journalist who uncovers a tangled conspiracy around the election.

Meanwhile, on the telly front, there's a new Road Trip series from the team behind A League of Their Own, while Gemma Arterton takes on the lead role in Funny Woman — playing a burgeoning comedy talent who becomes a star in 1960s London.

New movies on Sky Cinema and NOW in February 2023
Madness: The Get-Up! (10 February)
Combining live music performance with comedy skits, this is a unique experience from the Madness boys. There are renditions of all of the group's classic hits, including Baggy Trousers, House of Fun and Night Boat to Cairo, as well as fun capers. Comedy writer Charlie Higson worked with the group to put the thing together.
Rock Dog 3: Battle the Beat (11 February)
The continuing adventures of the musically talented Tibetan Mastiff dog Bodi are the focus of this threequel, which features a vocal performance by Eddie Izzard. This time around, Bodi (Graham Hamilton) works to restore the legend of music icon Angus Scattergood (Izzard) when the contestants taking part in a music show admit they've never heard of the star.
The Independent (24 February)
Jodie Turner-Smith plays a political journalist in this knotty thriller, directed by Amy Rice from a script by Evan Parter that appeared on the Black List of best unproduced screenplays several years ago. John Cena is an independent political candidate running to be US president, only for Turner-Smith's character to uncover a conspiracy that could change the entire course of the race.

Blood & Treasure S2 (1 February)
This action-adventure set in the world of priceless antiquities continues, with FBI agent turned lawyer Danny McNamara again teaming up with art thief Lexi Vaziri. This time, terrorists attack the Vatican and the duo find themselves on the hunt for a priceless artefact linked to Genghis Khan.
Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis: Live at the Lincoln Center, New York (4 February)
This documentary special combines the titular performance by music stars Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis with interview segments featuring the duo. Filmed over two nights at Lincoln Center, the performance is a mixture of country music and jazz blues.
The Rookie S5/The Rookie: Feds S1 (2 February/8 February)
Nathan Fillion returns for the fifth season of police procedural drama The Rookie, in which he portrays a 40-something man who became one of the oldest rookies in the LAPD when he joined. Meanwhile, new spin-off The Rookie: Feds sees Fillion's character team up with the oldest rookie at the FBI academy — played by Niecy Nash-Betts.
Funny Woman (9 February)
Gemma Arterton takes on the lead role in this sitcom, which follows a woman's rise through the world of TV comedy in the 1960s. Adapting Nick Hornby's 2014 novel Funny Girl, the series sees Barbara Parker win Miss Blackpool and make the move to London in search of stardom. There, she finds a sitcom starring role to make her name.
Andrea Bocelli: The Journey (13 February)
With appearances from a number of musical guests, this documentary series follows renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli as he takes a journey across Italy in order to explore its culture and history.
A League of Their Own Road Trip S7 (17 February)
Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards are joined by a selection of comedy pals for a wild journey across South East Asia in the latest spin-off travel doc from the sport-based panel game.
Django (17 February)
Set in the 19th century West, this new drama series is loosely inspired by the Sergio Corbucci film Django. Matthias Schoenaerts plays the title role as a man looking for the daughter he believed survived the murder of his entire family eight years earlier, only to find her in the supposedly utopian society of New Babylon. Noomi Rapace is also in the cast.
The Equalizer S3 (TBC February)
Queen Latifah returns to once again play skilled operative Robyn McCall who, in this third season, is struggling with the increased blurring of the lines between her life as a vigilante for those who cannot fight back themselves and her family.
Fred West: The Glasgow Girls (TBC February)
This documentary series shines the spotlight on a very specific portion of serial killer Fred West's life, focusing on his first victims during the time he lived in Glasgow. The series has been put together by a female team of creatives, so offers a new perspective and focuses on asking questions about why his reign of terror wasn't stopped earlier.
Guy Garvey: From the Vaults S4 (TBC February)
Guy Garvey again delves into the vaults of music history for Sky Arts in order to unearth unseen performances and interview clips from some of the biggest acts in the business. The Elbow frontman again serves to guide the audience through material that shines new light on music legends.
The Man Who Stole the Scream (TBC February)
During the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway, former professional footballer Pål Enger carried out an audacious art heist — nabbing Edvard Munch's famous painting The Scream. This documentary explores the bizarre story, as well as posing questions around whether Enger operated alone or whether there could possibly have been another mastermind.
Shaq (TBC February)
Basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal is the focus of this series, which uses interviews with the man himself to trace his rise to the top of the NBA and beyond to being the enormous cultural figure he is today.
Sky Kids Relaunch (TBC February)
The long-running Sky Kids brand gets a new linear channel in February and is launching with a huge array of programming for young audiences, including 123 Number Squad!, Clifford, Cosmic Yoga: Yoga Adventures!, Dino Club, Miffy's Adventures Big and Small, Morph and Where's Wally.
Women Who Rock (TBC February)
This docuseries honours the impact on the music industry of various pioneering woman, who turned a male-dominated business on its head to become legends. It's a four-part series featuring contributions by Shania Twain, Joan Jett, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar and many of the other women who have played a part in changing music forever.
