New on Prime Video UK in February 2023: Everything to watch from Picard to Die Hart

One of the biggest franchises on the Prime Video UK roster is heading back to screens this month, as the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard sees Patrick Stewart take his final bow as one of his most memorable characters.

When it comes to new movie debuts, there are a pair of Mel Gibson actioners and a romcom penned by real married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco. Elsewhere, Kevin Hart repurposes his Quibi comedy series Die Hart into a feature-length outing.

New movies coming to Prime Video UK in February 2023

On the Line (8 February)

Mel Gibson leads the cast of this thriller, written and directed by Romuald Boulanger. Gibson plays the role of an edgy and controversial radio host who receives a deadly challenge from a caller to his show. The caller is threatening to kill Gibson's entire family, unless the presenter can work out who they are.

Somebody I Used to Know (10 February)

Husband and wife duo Dave Franco and Alison Brie have collaborated to write this romcom together, with Franco as director and Brie as its star. Brie plays a workaholic woman whose outlook on life begins to change when she reconnects with her ex (Jay Ellis) while visiting her hometown and also crosses paths with a younger woman (Kiersey Clemons) who reminds her of the person she used to be.

Bandit (22 February)

Josh Duhamel leads this inspired-by-truth crime thriller as prolific robber Gilbert Galvan Jr, who was nicknamed "The Flying Bandit" after a spree of jewellery store and bank heists. Duhamel met the real Galvan during production and has received acclaim for this as being one of the best performances of his career. Mel Gibson is also in the cast.

Die Hart (24 February)

In 2020, Kevin Hart starred in the bitesize comedy show Die Hart for the ill-fated shortform video platform Quibi. Three years later, he has repurposed that series into a feature-length movie. In the movie, Hart plays a fictionalised spin on his own persona, going to an "action hero school" run by John Travolta's character in an attempt to become a serious action man rather than comic relief. There's added intrigue due to the presence in the director's chair of Eric Appel — a comedy veteran who made his feature debut last year with the underrated gem Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

New TV shows coming to Prime Video UK in February 2023

Harlem S2 (weekly from 3 February)

Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver's comedy series returns this month for a second season. The show continues to follow a group of four female friends living in Harlem and navigating life in their 30s after meeting at university.

Clarkson’s Farm S2 (10 February)

There's a lot of speculation swirling around Jeremy Clarkson's future on Prime Video in the wake of his controversial column about Meghan Markle. However, the star is back on the streaming service this month with a second season of his popular show about his new career as a farmer.

Carnival Row S2 (all episodes from 17 February)

This neo-noir fantasy series is back for a second and final season, with Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne back as former lovers with supernatural backgrounds. Bloom's character is investigating a series of gruesome murders which are stoking tensions between human beings and the mythical creatures with whom they now share their world.

La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta (all episodes from 17 February)

This eight-part series from Mexico follows Juan Manuel Bernal as Joaquín Murrieta — a possibly mythical outlaw known to many as the Mexican Robin Hood — and Alejandro Speitzer as Joaquin Carrillo. The two of them are believed to have been a part of an outlaw group known as the Five Joaquins Gang and, in this show, we see their paths cross in order to take down a common enemy.

Star Trek: Picard S3 (weekly from 17 February)

Star Trek: Picard is back for a third and final season, with Patrick Stewart donning the Starfleet uniform one last time to play Jean-Luc Picard again.

This third run brings back many of the cast members from Star Trek: The Next Generation — including Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner — and has Amanda Plummer tapped as the main villain. There has been plenty of speculation that, with Stewart saying goodbye to the role, things might not end well for Picard.

Kathleen Madigan: Hunting Bigfoot (21 February)

Journalist turned comedian Kathleen Madigan has made her way to Prime with a new comedy special, recorded in Denver, Colorado. She has already released three specials via Netflix, but has crossed the floor for her latest, which discusses topics including ageing, millennials and, of course, bigfoot.

The Consultant (all episodes from 24 February)

Tony Basgallop has a great track record for creating dark, twisty TV shows — including Servant, directed by M Night Shyamalan. His latest is The Consultant, in which Christoph Waltz plays the titular adviser as he is brought in to improve the business operation of an app-based gaming company. The series explores the potentially sinister relationship between boss and employee.
