New on Disney+ UK in May 2022: New movies and TV shows to stream, from 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' to 'Pistol'
With the latest Marvel series set to come to an end this month with the final episodes of Moon Knight, Disney+ UK is debuting another marquee slice of blockbuster TV. Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor return to the Star Wars universe in the title role, joined by Hayden Christensen as burgeoning baddie Darth Vader.
Elsewhere, fans of punk rock can feast their eyes on the story of the Sex Pistols via Danny Boyle's new series Pistol, despite the best wishes of John Lydon. There's also a decidedly meta journey into the world of Disney's animated properties with the utterly bizarre Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and a whole new take on the idea of Cinderella.

Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in May 2022
Sneakerella (13 May)
Over the last century of cinema, we've seen dozens of different takes on the story of Cinderella — most recently with Camila Cabello in the title role. Sneakerella, directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, reimagines the story from the perspective of an aspiring footwear designer. Chosen Jacobs plays El, whose dream career moves a step closer when he falls in love with the daughter of a basketball star and sneaker tycoon.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (20 May)
This ultra-meta take on two beloved Disney characters takes place with Chip and Dale reconnecting, 30 years after the animated Rescue Rangers series. Chip (John Mulaney) works in insurance, while Dale (Andy Samberg) has undergone a CGI makeover and is still trying to make things happen in showbiz.
The film is directed by Samberg's The Lonely Island buddy Akiva Schaffer and has a unique feel, with the trailer featuring cameos from the likes of Roger Rabbit, Seth Rogen as a motion-capture Viking and the cat from Paula Abdul's Opposites Attract video. It's an eclectic mix to say the least.
The Valet (20 May)
Just a few months after Marry Me featured J-Lo as a pop star falling in love with an ordinary guy she met at a concert, The Valet gives the celeb-meets-normal-bloke romcom setup another spin. A remake of a 2006 French film, the movie follows Ready or Not star Samara Weaving as a glamorous actress who begins dating Eugenio Derbez's valet in order to swerve the negative press around a recent affair.
We Feed People (27 May)
Ron Howard helms this socially conscious documentary about TV chef José Andrés. He runs a nonprofit organisation called World Central Kitchen, which helps to deliver food to disaster areas. The movie debuted in March at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas to strong reviews.

Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett (4 May)
Disney returns to its popular series of "making of" documentaries, with this look behind the scenes at the latest Star Wars show The Book of Boba Fett.
How I Met Your Father (11 May)
Over the course of nine seasons, How I Met Your Mother became one of the most popular modern sitcoms on American TV before it came to an end in 2014. Inevitably, much as The Big Bang Theory birthed Young Sheldon, it didn't take long for TV execs to want to return to that world.
How I Met Your Father follows a different protagonist, recounting to their kids how they met their dad via the medium of an enjoyably long-winded look through the world of modern dating. Kim Cattrall plays Sophie in the framing device, with Hilary Duff leading the cast as the present day incarnation of Sophie.
The Quest (11 May)
Reality TV show The Quest aired on ABC back in 2014 and is now returning on Disney+, with teen participants transported into an immersive fantasy world to take part in a series of challenges.
Life & Beth (18 May)
Amy Schumer created this comedy-drama series and takes on the title role as a woman in her 30s who is driven to explore her past after a traumatic incident. Violet Young plays the younger version of Beth, while the cast also includes Michael Cera and Michael Rapaport.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga (25 May)
New York City in the early 1990s provides the backdrop for this series about the formation of hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan. Moonlight star Ashton Sanders leads the cast as the RZA, with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse leading man Shameik Moore as Raekwon.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (weekly from 27 May)
In the wake of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Disney is continuing to plug the gaps of the Star Wars timeline with this series, set a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Ewan McGregor plays Obi-Wan Kenobi as he lives in the shadows on Tatooine in the wake of surviving Order 66 and the death of the Jedi order. He watches over the young Luke Skywalker, while reflecting on his feelings of failure around Anakin's fall to the dark side.
Elsewhere in the cast, Rupert Friend plays the villainous Grand Inquisitor, while Joel Edgerton returns as moisture farmer Owen Lars and Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin — now in full Vader form.
Pistol (31 May)
The formation of the Sex Pistols in the rebellious 1970s takes centre stage in this miniseries, helmed by Danny Boyle and based on a memoir by Pistols guitarist Steve Jones. Jones is played by Toby Wallace, with Anson Boon as frontman Johnny Rotten and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as the band's manager. The cast also includes an almost unrecognisable Maisie Williams as punk icon Jordan.
Oussekine (May TBC)
Malik Oussekine died in 1986 after being chased and beaten by police who were dealing with protests in Paris. This four-episode limited series explores the struggles faced by Oussekine's family in trying to get justice for Malik.
