David Beckham’s dodgy King Arthur cameo revealed

David Beckham really is in ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’.

And his dodgy cameo has finally been unveiled.

‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ stars Charlie Hunnam as Arthur – brought up on the backstreets of the city with no idea of his true heritage… that is, until he pulls the fabled sword from the stone and finally learns of his birth right.

A classic legend, then… with a not-so-legendary performance by Beckham.

It’s no secret that David Beckham was gearing up for a role in ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ – After all, he already revealed his heavily-scarred facial make-up in an Instagram post.

But it looks as though Becks’ acting talent leaves a lot to be desired.

It’s Beckham’s first major feature film, and he stars alongside Charlie Hunnam as Trigger – a rather harsh-looking character who’s in charge of rounding up the local peasants so they can each try pulling the fabled sword from the stone.

And he clearly doesn’t think Arthur stands much of a chance…

Putting on his best cockney accent, Beckham doesn’t mess around as he shouts over instructions to the reluctant Arthur. “Hands on the hilt, stupid,” he says, with all the strength and conviction of a wet paper bag.

And it doesn’t get much better.

Looking on in disbelief as Arthur draws the sword from the stone, Becks might as well rub both eyes before declaring ‘jinkies’ like a Scooby-Doo character. It really isn’t good. And it hasn’t gone unnoticed, either.

“Well done David, you’re a brilliant actor,” said Piers Morgan on GMB. Obviously, his comment was dripping with sarcasm. “I can see Oscars looming. Another talent from that super talented family.”

As much as I hate to agree with Piers Morgan, he’s right – David Beckham’s ‘King Arthur’ cameo is absolute bilge, and the role would have been better served by an actor who, well, knows how to act.

But I get the feeling that’s going to be the least of ‘King Arthur’s problems…

‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ stars Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou and Poppy Delevingne.

Guy Ritchie directed the movie based on a script he co-wrote with Joby Harold and Lionel Wigram.
