‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ best joke was almost cut
Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige has revealed that the best joke in Avengers: Endgame, the one which sees Steve Rogers’ behind being labelled “America’s ass,” nearly didn’t make the final version of the blockbuster.
Marvel Studios’ president made this admission on Twitter to celebrate the release of Endgame digitally, admitting that the line, which was first uttered by Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, nearly didn’t make the cut.

"Ant-Man's line was not in [the film] for quite a while,” began Feige, who then explained that they only contemplated adding it after they put it back in for test audiences. “It killed. It killed instantly. Every time, without question.”
At that point Feige and the Avengers: Endgame team decided to add Steve Rogers reprising the line after fighting his younger self in the film, which is now the highest grossing movie of all time.
Feige believes that this line shows just how much Captain America has grown over the space of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Let's be honest, we questioned, 'Is it in the character of Steve Rogers to make a comment on his own ass?' And the thought was, 'Yes it works, and the audience likes it,' but also, we were building a version of Steve who was growing, who was loosening up.”

“It was part of a character shift to get to the decision he makes at the end of the movie to stay with Peggy, and get some of that life Tony was always telling him to get."
