Aquaman fans argue about the number of prongs on his trident
‘Aquaman’ fans are not happy.
Not when there are critics of the superhero’s trident…
It’s been out there for months – the design of Aquaman’s iconic trident has been seen everywhere from the hero’s ‘Justice League’ character poster to the recent ‘Justice League’ trailer. But out of nowhere, it looks as though some folks aren’t sold on a trident with five prongs.
And ‘Aquaman’ fans are having none of it.

It all started on Twitter (where else) when one user made a joke about Aquaman’s trident having five prongs… which would technically make it not a trident.
“Giving Aquaman’s trident 5 points instead of 3—making it more Xtreme but NOT A TRIDENT,” he said. “Sums up Zack Snyder’s DC Cinematic Universe in 1 prop”

Of course, the joke here is that Zack Snyder’s DC movies have all been bigger and more extreme… but also may have missed the mark a bit.
And it all seems to have gone downhill from there.
Clearly, ‘Aquaman’ fans just couldn’t let it lie – especially since his five-pronged trident wasn’t invented by Zack Snyder. In fact, it’s been a staple of the comic books for quite some time, with numerous modern depictions of the character featuring the five-pronged trident.
“Aquaman’s trident has had five points for years in the comics, y’all,” said on Twitter user. “CALM DOWN.”
And others provided pictorial evidence…
Dear everyone saying Zack Snyder is overdoing Aquaman by giving him a 5-pronged trident, I give you Aquaman art from YEARS ago. Chill out. pic.twitter.com/CqASaUH3tR

Are ppl really arguing about #Aquaman trident? "The trident has 5 pointers on it. Zack Snyder is messing up again" #DCEU

Obviously, that hasn’t stopped people from poking fun at Aquaman’s not-trident, with accusations that it’s actually more like a rake… and it’s already resulted in at least one pretty amusing photoshop effort. Spork, anyone?
Still, it turns out that a five-pronged trident should actually be called a quinquedent. Doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, does it? And perhaps you can see why most Aquaman fans will be sticking to calling it a ‘trident’ for the time being.
Even if it is a bit wrong…
‘Aquaman’ stars Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Willem Dafoe.
James Wan will direct based on a script by Will Beall.
‘Aquaman’ heads to cinemas on 21 December 2018.
