Where Clemson football is ranked in preseason top 25 US LBM Coaches Poll

CLEMSON — Clemson football landed at No. 14 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll released on Monday.

The Tigers received 657 points but no first-place votes. They were the No. 2-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Florida State, which placed at No. 10 with 867 points. FSU was picked to win the conference in the ACC preseason media poll with Clemson finishing second.

Two other ACC schools made the Top 25: Miami (292) at No. 19 and NC State (216) at No. 22.

ACC teams that did not make the preseason Top 25 but received votes were Louisville (95 points, 27th on poll), Virginia Tech (64, 28th), SMU (47, 29th) and North Carolina (6, 40th).

Clemson's preseason ranking is a five-spot drop after it ranked No. 9 in 2023, when it finished with a 9-4 record for its fewest wins since 2010. The Tigers ranked No. 20 in the final coaches poll of the 2023 season.

Georgia is the No. 1 team in the poll, earning 1,364 points and 46 first-place votes. Clemson faces the Bulldogs on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to open its season.

Ohio State was No. 2 with 1,302 points and seven first-place votes, while No. 4 Texas and reigning national champion Michigan (No. 8) earned one first-place vote apiece.

The Wolverines are the lowest-ranked defending champion since Auburn in 2011. Before that, Clemson was the lowest in 1982. Washington, which finished No. 2 in 2023, did not make the 2024 preseason Top 25.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.
