Where Clemson football, Dabo Swinney were predicted to finish in 2024 ACC preseason poll
CLEMSON — Clemson football was picked to finish in second in the 17-team ACC in the preseason media poll, according to a release from the conference Wednesday.
The Tigers received 2,657 points and secured 55 first-place votes. They finished behind Florida State, which received 2,708 points and 81 first-place votes. Miami (17), NC State (8), Virginia Tech (5), California (2), Georgia Tech (1) and Boston College (1) also received first-place votes.
This is the second time in the past 10 years that Clemson is not favored to win the ACC. The other instance came in 2017 when Florida State was picked to win. Clemson went 7-1 in conference play that season, while Florida State went 3-5.
The Tigers were picked to win the conference last season but finished 9-4 in 2023, their fewest wins since 2010. Their 2024 schedule features home games against NC State, Stanford, Louisville and South Carolina and road games against Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh.
The media poll was conducted by a vote from a media panel, including all credentialed media members at ACC Kickoff. The poll comes after the ACC added Stanford, SMU and California to the conference this season and did away with divisions last year.
The preseason All-ACC team and Player of the Year will be released Thursday. Clemson begins preseason practices Thursday before opening the 2024 season against Georgia on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
