Video: Lane Thomas hits HR in big 1st inning for Guardians in Game 1 of ALDS vs Tigers

CLEVELAND — The Guardians opened the 2024 playoffs with a five-run first inning in which the first five batters reached base against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Progressive Field.

Lane Thomas delivered the big blow with a three-run home run on the first pitch he saw from Reese Olson to give Cleveland a 5-0 lead. Thomas' homer to the left field bleachers came in his first postseason at-bat with the Guardians.

Olson entered the game after starting pitcher Tyler Holton faced four batters and did not record an out. Steven Kwan led off with a double off the fence in right-center field and David Fry walked. Jose Ramirez reached via an error and Kwan scored. Josh Naylor followed with a single that scored Fry.
