The 27-year-old went six innings and struck out six Astros on his way to a wild-card win in Houston in his first start of the postseason. In the first game of this ALDS, the Guardians got a 7-0 win behind a three-run homer from Lane Thomas and 4 1/3 innings of no-hit ball from their bullpen.
In the nightcap Monday, the New York Yankees look to take a 2-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals in the Bronx. Alex Verdugo was the Game 1 star for the Bombers, with a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and a highlight-reel catch to save a run to help the Yankees to a 6-5 win. Cole Ragans gets the ball for the Royals in Game 2 against Carlos Rodón for the Yankees.
The Tigers have four hits and have reached twice on walks, but have no runs to show for it through five innings. The Guardians, meanwhile, are seeking their first baserunner against Tarik Skubal.
