Texas high school football: Akins or Cedar Creek will end yearslong losing streak Thursday
UPDATE: Akins ends losing streak by hammering Cedar Creek
Besides sharing a mascot — the Eagle — Akins and Cedar Creek have something else in common when they meet Thursday night at Bastrop ISD Memorial Stadium.
Both programs carry a 26-game losing streak into the contest, which is tied for the second-longest in the Austin area. (Eastside has lost 49 straight.)
Each team last won in Week 5 of 2021. Akins defeated Austin High 20-18, while Cedar Creek knocked off Elgin 14-6.
The longest losing streak in Texas high school football history is 80 games by Houston Northside, then known as Houston Jefferson Davis, from 1985-93, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
