Have you heard the one about the Pittsburgh Steelers' interest in Brandon Aiyuk?

Speculation swirled again this week after the San Fransisco 49ers gave the veteran receiver permission to seek a trade with the Steelers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Washington Commanders. The latter two have bowed out of consideration leaving Pittsburgh and Cleveland as the lone potential destinations.

It was initially reported that the Steelers were out of the running after failing to meet the Niners' trade demands. However, the next day, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Steelers are "for sure" still in the mix.

93.7 The Fan's Andrew Filliponi stirred the pot a little bit more, tweeting that Pittsburgh has a "verbal agreement in place" for the sought-after playmaker.

Keep in mind this is Filliponi, who has a tendency to farm for engagements. You have to wonder if his "sources" are credible or even existent. He could just be throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks.

Aside from the Steelers still being in the race for Aiyuk, no one of repute has reported that Pittsburgh is close to a deal with San Fransisco.
