Shane Beamer, South Carolina football live updates for 2024 SEC Media Days
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and three Gamecocks are in Dallas for the 2024 SEC Football Kickoff Media Days at the Omni Dallas Hotel.
South Carolina is scheduled for the opening day of the four-day event. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey will speak first, before representatives from LSU answer questions from media. South Carolina will be the second team to speak Monday.
Beamer is coming off a 5-7 season in 2023 and will be without quarterback Spencer Rattler, who started and led the Gamecocks the past two seasons. Beamer named redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers the new starting quarterback after the spring practices, but Sellers will not be in Dallas.

Shane Beamer talks about returning to Oklahoma
"For me it's a work trip," Beamer said about returning to Oklahoma. "It will be a big challenge going back to Norman on that Saturday but really looking forward to the trip."
Beamer worked at Oklahoma starting in 2018 until he left for South Carolina in 2020. The Sooners are newcomers to the SEC this season, and the Gamecocks travel to Norman on Oct. 19.
Shane Beamer talks about quarterback situation for South Carolina
The Gamecocks will begin the season with a quarterback who hasn't started a game for South Carolina. Beamer spoke highly of his two main options: LaNorris Sellers and Robby Ashford on Monday but added that Luke Doty, who traveled to Dallas with Beamer, has quarterback experience as well.
"(Doty) started games at quarterback in 2020 before I was even hired as head coach when I was coaching at Oklahoma as well so we've got experience in that room," Beamer said. "We don't have a ton of experience starting in South Carolina but (Ashford) has SEC experience and Sellers played some games last season. We return a lot of players around those guys."
Rocket Sanders' injury recovery was 'rocket science' Beamer says
Sanders, who is the Gamecocks' best transfer pick up since Rattler, battled a knee injury at Arkansas in 2023 and is recovering from shoulder surgery. He missed the spring game for the Gamecocks and has been working through recovery since roughly January.
"One of our strength coaches the other day said what we've done with (Sanders) is rocket science, I think I thought that was funnier than you guys did," Beamer joked. "Sanders is starving and very hungry to get back to the (player) he was in 2022."
In 2022, he rushed for 1,443 yards on 222 carries and ran in 10 touchdowns, in addition to 28 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Beamer said that Sanders has shaved almost 6% of his body fat since February and has lost a considerable amount of weight.

Which South Carolina football players are at 2024 SEC Media Days?
Alex "Boogie" Huntley, Luke Doty and Debo Williams will represent the Gamecocks on Monday.
Doty, a redshirt senior, has split time at quarterback, wide receiver and special teams. Doty has been with the Gamecocks his entire college career and played in all 12 games last season.
Huntley, a defensive tackle and returning captain, also brings experience as he's played in at least one game for the Gamecocks every season the past four years.
Linebacker Debo Williams can easily be called the glue to the defense. He's spent three years with the Gamecocks after starting his career in his home state of Delaware. He was also named captain in 2023.
