What is roughing the passer? Arizona Cardinals flagged on bad call against Josh Allen
It's 2024 and we still don't know what roughing the passer is in the NFL.
The Buffalo Bills benefited from a roughing the passer penalty to score their first touchdown of the 2024 season.
Buffalo trailed the Arizona Cardinals 17-3 with less than a minute left in the first half. Linebacker Zaven Collins sacked Bills quarterback Josh Allen, pulling him down by his shoulder pads. Collins was flagged for roughing the passer.
The sack would've put the ball at midfield. Instead it gave the Bills first-and-10 rom the Cardinals' 26. Three plays later, Josh Allen ran in a 7-yard touchdown to pull the Bills to within 17-10.
On the first possession of the game, Buffalo cornerback Ja'Marcus Ingram was the victim of an awful call inlving Cardinals' quarterback Kyler Murray, who gave himself up with a slide and bounced off the turf. Ingram avoided hitting Murray but was still penalized for unnecessary roughness.
