Roddy Gayle Jr. to transfer from Ohio State to Michigan: What we know

After completing two seasons with Ohio State, Roddy Gayle is heading north.

The former Ohio State guard, who entered the transfer portal after the 2023-24 season, announced on his Instagram page that he is transferring to Michigan. Gayle has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Gayle is one of four OSU players to enter the transfer portal after the 2023-24 season. He joins wing Scotty Middleton, forward/center Zed Key and center Felix Okpara.

Ohio State has added transfers Aaron Bradshaw, a center from Kentucky; South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson; and San Diego State guard Micah Parrish.

In two seasons with the Buckeyes, Gayle, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard, started 46 of 71 games and averaged 9.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2 assists per game. He shot 44.7% from the field and 33.1% from 3-point range.

In 2023-24, Gayle started 35 of 36 games and averaged 30.9 minutes per game. He was the team's third-leading scorer at 13.5 points per game and contributed more than 10 points in 28 games, including a career-high 32 against West Virginia.

Gayle was ranked as the No. 49 player in the 2022 class per 247Sports' composite rankings. He did not report an offer from Michigan per 247Sports.

In his two seasons at Ohio State, Gayle beat Michigan once, an 84-61 home win against the Wolverines on March 3. In that game, he scored 15 points, making six of 10 attempts from the field, with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

In three career games against Michigan, Gayle made 9 of 22 shots and averaged 10 points per game. He also averaged 1.6 rebounds and 1 assist in an average of 24 minutes per game.
