3 keys to victory for Oregon football against Boise State

After last week’s 24-14 win over Idaho, the No. 7 Oregon football team will be looking for a more complete performance against a better foe in Boise State this Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

The Ducks (1-0) underwhelmed in their season debut against the Vandals but have a chance to put that all behind them this week against the Broncos (1-0).

“We get to play a really good opponent,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “They’re really talented across the board and have had a lot of success over the last several years. They’re a really good team and a good challenge for us.”

Column: Lanning's to-do list for Boise State game includes nearly everything

After the disappointing win over the valiant Idaho Vandals, Oregon coach Dan Lanning was measured and thoughtful answering questions about “What happened, anyway?” The third-year Oregon head coach said, “Every single game we look for an opportunity to grow. We certainly walked away from this game with opportunities to grow.”

There’s not enough room to note all the “opportunities,” but discipline and execution by an offensive line that looked massively overrated would be a start, columnist Ken Woody writes.

What Dillon Gabriel says Ducks need to do before Boise State matchup

Looking back on his record-setting performance inside Autzen Stadium on Saturday, Dillon Gabriel wasn’t about to pat himself on the back.

There is too much room for improvement for the Oregon quarterback and the Ducks’ offense after struggling to put points on the board in a 24-14 season-opening win against Idaho.

“A lot to fix, a lot to clean up, but that’s a good thing as well,” Gabriel said Tuesday afternoon. “Practice has been fiery and it’s been good. We needed that. We need to just keep getting better. You look at the film and you just keep diving into how we can improve.”

Oregon football injury updates for Boise State game

Oregon's list of available players for the Boise State game doesn't look much different that what it was last week for Idaho.

The official availability report for the No. 6 Ducks will be announced by the Big Ten Conference around 5 p.m. Saturday — two hours before kickoff against the Broncos at Autzen Stadium.

Until then, click here to see an unofficial list of players who have known injuries, or who were officially listed as out or questionable for last week's win against the Vandals.

After wearing its "Gang Green" uniforms last week against Idaho, the No. 7 Oregon football team announced it would wear a similar look against Boise State at Autzen Stadium Saturday.

The Ducks will wear their "Gang Green" jerseys with white pants instead of green, and with green helmets and green facemasks.

The only major difference between the uniforms worn from Week 1 against Idaho are the green facemasks rather than yellow, and white pants instead of green.

Dan Lanning, Oregon players react to 'strenuous' win against Idaho

The stage was set Saturday for Oregon to make a bang in its Big Ten Conference debut, with a Football Championship Subdivision team in Autzen Stadium for the No. 3 Ducks’ anticipated season opener.

But a showcase of offensive weaponry and big-play potential never materialized for Oregon in its 24-14 victory against Idaho in what was a one-touchdown game until late in the fourth quarter.

“It was strenuous when it didn’t have to be,” said quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whose first game as a Duck looked spectacular on the stat sheet but less so in the final score.

Gabriel was 41-for-49 passing for 380 yards and two touchdowns — both to wide receiver Tez Johnson — though the sixth-year senior took very few deep shots down the field and was also sacked three times.

“I think ultimately Dillon operated within the offense well,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “I thought he understood what we were trying to accomplish and made some good decisions. I think we have to figure out how to eliminate some of the pressure that showed up and some of the sacks that showed up.”

Streaming services, channels to watch Oregon football play in Big Ten

With the Oregon football team’s move to the Big Ten Conferencethe Ducks’ TV schedule looks a bit different from years past.

No longer will fans have to worry about tracking down Pac-12 Network if it doesn’t come with your cable service, but new stations and services like Big Ten Network and Peacock will be needed to watch games.

Take a look at the channels you’ll need to watch Oregon football this season, and where you might be able to find them on cable and streaming services.

Why Comcast won’t show Oregon games on Big Ten Network

Many fans are discovering that those not attending Oregon games will be unable to watch them on TV.

This summer, some fans found that their local teams' games on the Big Ten Network were blacked out on Comcast/Xfinity channels and met with a message that referred viewers to allhuskiesgames.com, a Comcast phone number and the Big Ten Network logo.

When visiting the website allbtngames.com, it clarified that: "Comcast Xfinity is the only pay TV provider that declined to accept the Big Ten Network territory expansion offer. Therefore Comcast Xfinity viewers in many areas will not have access to live broadcasts of the highly anticipated inaugural B1G season games for Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington on Big Ten Network."

Ranking Oregon football's most intriguing 2024 matchups

The Ducks, looking to build off a 12-2 season and a Fiesta Bowl win in 2023, opened the season in late August with a 24-14 win against Idaho.

Take a look at some of the most interesting matchups on the 2024 schedule.

How the Ducks prepared for life in the Big Ten

The Oregon football team is looked forward to the challenge of competing in a new league.

Joining the Ducks in the Big Ten are Washington, USC and UCLA, which the conference added to its the iconic "Maps" commercial aired on TVs during its sporting events throughout the year.

Even though Oregon is one of the new kids on the block, the Ducks have more than a few players who have already played in the Big Ten, including offensive lineman Matthew Bedford, defensive lineman Derrick Harmon and inside linebacker Jestin Jacobs.

A common sentiment expressed by the trio of players when asked the potential difference in playing in the Big Ten: “Football is football.”

“We’ve got some dudes on the d-line,” Harmon, a transfer from Michigan State, said. “We got the bodies to handle the Big Ten. This defense can match up in the Big Ten, for sure. I know this conference, they’re gonna run that ball. That’s what they want to do. We’ve got to try and stop the run, that’s going to be the main focus.”

Lanning and Oregon players also proclaimed their intentions for the upcoming season. The Ducks aren’t looking to just transition to their new conference. They’re looking to win it.

“The great thing about college football is you still have to play the games,” Lanning said. “It really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, the only people that really truly affect that are the players and coaches. That’s our focus. How can we control our destiny? You do that by focusing on what’s right in front of you, not what’s way on the horizon.”

Oregon wearing new uniforms in 2024

The Ducks debuted their new "Generation O" uniforms in the Big Ten conference this season. The team's first combination is called the "Fly Era," featuring mostly black and white with green trim.

The Ducks' second set of "Generation O" uniforms is an all-green set, which pays homage to the "Gang Green" Oregon Ducks of the mid 1990s.

Going with another look that honors tradition, the team's third set of uniforms is the "Mighty Oregon" combination. The first "Generation O" uniform to feature a white jersey, the look is inspired is by the jerseys worn by the Ducks in 1997, when Pat Johnson made "The Catch" at Washington in Seattle.
