NFL draft 2025: Texas football enters season with third-most NFL talent, per ESPN

Texas football had 11 players make the jump from college to the NFL last year, with Byron Murphy II being the highest-drafted Longhorn.

It was a program record, one that they'll be hoping to surpass in the next 2025 NFL draft, April 24-26 in Green Bay. According to ESPN, the Longhorns have a chance to do that, with 11 projected picks, the third-most of any college program.

Who will be this year's Murphy or T'Vondre Sweat? Sweat and Murphy were relatively unknown prior to the 2023 season — then went on to become one of the best defensive tackle duos in the country. Now they're playing on Sundays.

Here's what ESPN analyst Jordan Reid had to say about the three programs with the most NFL talent heading into the 2024 college football season:

Nov 19, 2022; Lawrence, Kansas, USA; Texas Longhorns offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. (78) looks to block Kansas Jayhawks defensive lineman Malcolm Lee (99) during the second half at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Texas football projected to have nearly a dozen 2024 NFL draft picks

The Longhorns' 2025 draft class is spearheaded by Kelvin Banks Jr., one of the best offensive tackles in all of college football. Reid had high praise for him, predicting that he'll be drafted among the top 10 picks in the upcoming draft.

He'd be the first offensive lineman taken in the first round since 2002.

"Banks has allowed only 12 pressures and two sacks in two seasons and is one of the most impressive pass protectors in the country. He is a physical road grader who creates clear running lanes reminiscent of what Ikem Ekonwu, the No. 6 pick in the 2022 draft, did at NC State," Reid said.

Besides Banks, quarterback Quinn Ewers has a chance to up his draft stock after returning for his senior year of school. While ESPN reports that scouts had him as a second-third round grade after the 2023-24 season, another productive year throwing to Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond could lead to both of them jumping to the first round.

GOLDEN: Why the dog days of summer matter for Texas football

Reid projects three first-round picks for Texas, tied with Georgia for the most of any program.

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive end Trey Moore is expected to be drafted Day 2. And after changing his number to Michael Huff's No. 7, Jahdae Barron is slated to be a Day 3 pick that could leap to Day 2 with a strong season.

Alfred Collins, taking over for another Longhorn gone to the NFL, could be a third-day pick; Barryn Sorrell and Ethan Burke also enter the season as possible final-day selections. Andrew Mukuba, who transferred from Clemson, could go on Day 3 as well. (Mukuba once starred at LBJ High in Austin as a wide receiver.)

These players will be tested by plenty of NFL talents, with SEC teams such as Georgia, Texas A&M and Oklahoma on Texas' schedule. Michigan football, Texas' Week 2 opponent, has eight projected draft picks.

Ohio State football leads the Big Ten at projected picks

The Buckeyes have earned the reputation of developing elite receivers the past few years. From recent products like Marvin Harrison Jr. and Garrett Wilson to veterans such as Terry McLaurin, drafting an Ohio State wideout is usually a good bet.

For the 2024-25 Buckeyes, cornerback Denzel Burke is the top player to watch as one of the best defensive backs in college football. ESPN projects him as a potential first round pick with upside.

"After an inconsistent, injury-riddled 2022 season, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound corner rebounded to his freshman form, allowing a mere 38.5% completion percentage as the primary defender in 2023. If he's able to repeat that performance, Burke will likely finish as a mid-to-late first-round pick," Reid wrote.

Senior edge rushers JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer project as Day 2 picks. Offensively, Emeka Egbuka looks to carry on the tradition of wide receiver university while their running back tandem of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson hold frightening potential as a rushing duo and could also go on Day 2 or even Day 1.

Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III (7) is defended by Georgia defensive lineman Mykel Williams (13) during a football game between Tennessee and Georgia at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023.

Georgia Bulldogs expected to have 16 NFL draft picks

No surprise here. Georgia football has been known to churn out premium talents year after year, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. The 2024 class was a break from tradition, with tight end Brock Bowers, offensive lineman Amarius Mims and receiver Ladd McConkey being the first Bulldogs taken off the board.

Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, Travon Walker, Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt are some of the notable defensive players drafted in recent years.

Edge Mykel Williams is the guy to watch in 2024. His elite physical traits give him a chance to be the first name called to the podium of the 2025 NFL draft.

ANOTHER NFL TALENT: RB Quintrevion Wisner uses Jonathon Brooks as example of seizing chances

"The 6-foot-5, 265-pound edge rusher is an NFL-ready defender, and switching from defensive end to outside linebacker this season should provide him more opportunities to rush the passer after 4.5 sacks in 2023," ESPN analyst Jordan Reid said.

Other players to watch include safety Malaki Starks and guards Dylan Fairchild and Tate Ratledge.

With six projected first rounders between Texas and Georgia, their matchup on Oct. 19 will be a showcase of some of the best talents college football has to offer.
