Texas football edge rusher Trey Moore blows linemen away with impressive bench press

Edge rusher Trey Moore, a relatively new addition to Texas football, has plenty of skill when it comes to getting after quarterbacks. But as All-American offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. found out during a weight-lifting session earlier this summer, the junior transfer from UTSA has plenty of strength, too.

According to Banks, Moore bench-pressed 405 pounds, stunning his beefy teammates. The 400-pound mark is usually reached by linemen like Banks, a 6-foot-4, 325-pound tackle projected as a first-round draft pick in next year’s NFL draft.

But Moore is a 6-3, 243-pound dervish of a pass rusher, more known for his nimble feet and quick moves rather than his muscle.

When asked by Jeff Jones of KVUE during a Zoom interview Thursday afternoon about some “wow moments” during the summer, Banks immediately brought up that weight session.

“We were lifting, and Trey Moore, you would not believe he was as strong as he is,” Banks said. “But that man, he can lift some weights. He did it pretty easily, too, so it was eye-opening.

“He's very strong, very powerful. And he shows on the field as well.”

Moore, originally an unrated recruit out of Smithson Valley High School north of San Antonio, was On3's top-rated edge rusher in the portal this past offseason. Last year, he recorded 45 tackles, 17½ tackles for loss, 14 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception and four pass breakups for UTSA.
