Miami Dolphins defeat Jacksonville Jaguars: Game recap, highlights from NFL Week 1

MIAMI GARDENS — The NFL regular season is finally here. The Jacksonville Jaguars face the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m., and there are expectations surrounding both teams. Keep scrolling for the latest updates and highlights from the game.

The Jaguars gave quarterback Trevor Lawrence a new contract - making him the highest paid QB in the NFL along with Cincinnati's Joe Burrow according to average annual value of $55 million. They hired a new defensive coordinator in Ryan Nielsen to get the most out of that unit.

The Dolphins also rewarded their quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, with a new contract, and gave him more weapons in rookie running back Jaylen Wright (who is inactive for Sunday's game) and veteran receiver Odell Beckham (who starts the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list). But there are questions on the offensive and defensive lines as Miami hopes to make the postseason for the third straight year and, more importantly, win a playoff game for the first time in 24 years.

Dolphins vs Jaguars predictions

Joe Schad, Palm Beach Post: Dolphins 26, Jaguars 21

"How to get to 26? How about a safety from rookie edge rusher Chop Robinson in his first NFL game? Tua Tagovailoa outshines overrated Trevor Lawrence in this one. Rookie receiver Jaylen Wright gets his first NFL touchdown."

Hal Habib, Palm Beach Post: Dolphins 24, Jaguars 20

"My calendar says it's September. My schedule says the Dolphins game starts at 1 p.m. That's a combination I would be reluctant to go against no matter who the opponent is. The Jaguars have their share of good players, but it'd take a lot more than what they have to go against Miami in a home-opener."

Demetrius Harvey, Florida Times-Union: Jaguars 31, Dolphins 30

"The Jaguars have a slight advantage. The Trevor Lawrence belief is real around these parts."

Gene Frenette, Florida Times-Union: Jaguars 30, Dolphins 27

"This game has a coin-flip feel to it, and my original thought was favoring the Dolphins because of the Week 1 timing and the venue. While how the Jaguars' offensive line and Ryan Nielsen's reconfigured defense holds up is a concern, Miami possibly having to go without hamstring-impaired cornerback Jalen Ramsey is a huge factor. I now like the Jaguars in an entertaining Trevor-Tua shootout."
