Memphis football linebacker Elijah Herring out vs Florida State
Memphis football linebacker Elijah Herring, who starred in last week's win over Troy, will not play on Saturday against Florida State.
Herring was not on the field for warmups in at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. It wasn't clear when he was injured.
His absence will be a significant loss for the Tigers (2-0). Herring, a transfer from Tennessee, made eight tackles to lead Memphis to a win against Troy and is a major part of the Tigers' revamped defense.
Braunson White is listed as Herring's backup on the Memphis depth chart. Bryce Edmondson, who is not listed on the depth chart, could also see time.
Herring's absence will mean even more responsibility for the two other starting linebackers on Memphis' defense: Chandler Martin and Matt Hudson.
The Tigers have reeled off two-straight blowout wins to open the 2024 season, but Saturday will present a much tougher test. Though the Seminoles have started the season 0-2, they're favored to get their first win of the season over the Tigers on Saturday.
