There is no more curse of the No. 1 overall seed in the College World Series.
With the 6-5 win on Monday over No. 3 Texas A&M in Game 3 of the College World Series championship series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, Tennessee became the first No. 1 overall seed to win the CWS in 25 years.
Jim Morris' Miami Hurricanes did it in 1999.

The historic night for the Vols started with star second baseman Christian Moore launching a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning, which led to Tennessee alum and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning hugging country music artist Morgan Wallen.
Tennessee — the fifth straight SEC team to win the CWS — tacked on two more runs in the third inning, going small ball instead, with a sacrifice fly to center from Dylan Dreiling and a single into left from Dean Curley, driving in Blake Burke and Hunter Ensley, respectively.
Dreiling hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, and Kavares Tears' double drove in Ensley for a 6-1 lead.
Prior to its national championship Monday, Tennessee's best finish at the College World Series was runner-up in 1951.

How many times has the No. 1 overall seed won the CWS?
With the Vols beating the Aggies Monday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Tennessee is the second team to have won the College World Series as the No. 1 overall seed since 1999, which was the first year of the current format of the CWS. The only other No. 1 overall seed to have won the CWS was Miami in 1999.

Tennessee joined the 1999 Miami Hurricanes as the lone two teams to have won the College World Series as a No. 1 overall seed in the history of the NCAA baseball tournament and CWS. Miami went undefeated in the 1999 CWS with wins over Rice, Alabama (twice) and Florida State.
The Vols went 5-1 in Omaha at the College World Series, opening 2-0 for the first time in program history with a 12-11 miracle comeback over No. 8 Florida State and a 6-1 win over No. 4 North Carolina.
The Vols would advance to the CWS championship series after defeating the Seminoles 7-2 in the semifinal. After dropping Game 1 of the championship series 9-5, Tennessee came back to win Game 2 and Game 3 by scores of 4-1 and 6-5, respectively.
