LSU baseball 2024 transfer portal tracker: Who's in, who's out for Jay Johnson

LSU baseball came up one run shy of advancing out of the Chapel Hill Regional in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The 4-3 loss in 10 innings to North Carolina in the NCAA regional championship game put the final bow on a Tigers season that featured a whirlwind of emotions and performance on the field. Jay Johnson's club finished 43-23 after closing the regular season with wins in four of its last five Southeastern Conference series to spark its run through the SEC and NCAA Tournaments.

As is customary after every season comes to a close, questions of which players will stay and which will enter their name in the transfer portal ratchets up almost immediately.

With the end of the season just a few days behind us, we already have some answers. Here's a look at which players have entered the transfer portal since the Tigers' season ended.

LSU baseball transfer portal tracker

Anthony Eyanson, San Diego pitcher

Much-needed get for LSU out of transfer portal as it needs experienced starting pitchers. Righthander Anthony Eyanson fits well with here LSU's staff currently stands as he has shown a propensity for pitching deep and winning games. He earned nine starts and won six of them, putting together a solid 3.07 ERA. Eyanson collected 14 total appearances in his sophomore campaign at San Diego, striking out 85 batters in 82 innings of work, allowing just 29 runs and 24 walks.

Daniel Dickinson, Utah Valley second baseman

Several analysts have said that Daniel Dickinson has the tools to be a possible first-round MLB Draft choice in the future. Jay Johnson surely hopes so as he likes what the infielder can bring to LSU. Dickinson hit .367 for UVU last season with 18 home runs, 53 RBIs and a whopping 73 runs scored. The Tigers have a need in the middle of the infield and Dickinson could play either second or shortstop, depending on exactly what the team's needs end up being.

Thatcher Hurd, pitcher

Things just never got going for Thatcher Hurd in 2024. Coming off a big performance during LSU's run at a national title in 2023, the hard throwing righty was LSU's Opening Day starter this season but got roughed up in his first six starts, which had him relegated to the bullpen. Hurd finished with a 6.55 ERA for the season, striking out 56 batters while allowing 38 runs in 44 innings of work.

Ryan Kucherak, infielder

In his freshman season with the Tigers, Kucherak played in 16 games, garnering 12 at-bats finishing with a .250 average. Kucherak had two RBIs, scored four times.

Justin Loer, pitcher

After transferring in from Xavier, Loer's time with LSU comes to an end after one season. The southpaw came out of the bullpen for the Tigers in 2024, when he accrued 26 appearances, pitching 24⅓ frames, giving up 17 runs for a 5.92 ERA. Loer managed 30 strikeouts with 12 walks while earning one save.

Dalton Beck, Incarnate Word

Dalton Beck brings a powerful bat to Baton Rouge, something the LSU coaching staff continues to search for in the transfer portal. What made Beck so enticing for Johnson is he's a lefty, which LSU needs. At UIW last season, Beck was the designated hitter and belted 18 homers with 67 RBIs and 59 runs to go along with his .377 batting average. With his college experience, Beck will easily compete for playing time next season.

Connor Benge, Dallas Baptist pitcher

In this day in age, you can never have too many arms. There's been plenty of departures from LSU's bullpen this offseason and Johnson and company have stockpiled numerous transfers to help fill things back out. Dallas Baptist transfer Connor Benge fits that mold for the Tigers. Last season, the sophomore righthander struck out 35 batters in 33 innings pitched. Opponents batted .268 against him and Benge had a strikeout rate of 22.2%.

Edward Yamin IV, Dayton first baseman

If LSU were to lose Jared Jones to the MLB Draft, it'll have a suitable replacement in Dayton transfer Edward Yamin IV. During his sophomore season with the Flyers, Yamin hit .342 with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs along with 55 runs scored.

MJ Seo, pitcher

Freshman pitcher M.J. Seo did not appear in any games for LSU in 2024.

Chris Stanfield, Auburn outfielder

LSU fills a void with the addition of Auburn centerfielder transfer Chris Stanfield. With the Paxton Kling entering the transfer portal, the Tigers needed to someone that could come in and compete for playing time right away and Stanfield fits that mold. The sophomore played two seasons at Auburn, hitting .275 across two years with a .398 on-base percentage. In 50 games this past season, Stanfield committed just two errors, making his defense a big complementary piece.

Brady Neal, catcher

The biggest surprise to date in the transfer portal so far for LSU. Brady Neal was primed to be LSU's starting catcher next season and would've provided a needed rock-solid left-handed bat that had SEC experience in the lineup. Now Jay Johnson and company will have to go looking for a catcher. Neal hit .276 in 2024 with nine home runs, 31 RBIs and 25 runs.

Javen Coleman, relief pitcher

Coleman had 12 total appearances, including seven starts for the Tigers last season. He tossed 26 innings, giving up 20 hits, 15 runs along with 28 strikeouts. Coleman's versatility among LSU's staff was needed as he started a few midweek games as well as started two postseason games.

Luke Hayden, Indiana State pitcher

In his first season as a full-time starter for the Sycamore, Luke Hayden proved dominant, going 7-2 on the mound with a 3.81 ERA. He threw one complete games and finished the 2024 season surrendering 40 runs while striking out 91. Hayden joins his Indiana State teammate Luis Hernandez in transferring to LSU.

Zac Cowan, Wofford pitcher

Zac Cowen is joining his former teammate, Wicker, in heading to Baton Rouge for the next step in his baseball career. The right-handed starting pitcher was the top ace for Wofford in 2024, amassing 124 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched, which lead to a salty 10-2 record. Cowan finished his sophomore season with a 3.35 ERA, while surrendering 45 runs off 102 hits.

Luis Hernandez, Indiana State infielder

LSU needs more power in its lineup for 2025 in a bad way and the coaching staff certainly addressed that issue with landing a commitment from Indiana State transfer Luis Hernandez. For the Sycamore last season, Hernandez cranked 23 home runs and hit for .359 with 76 RBIs. It was the statistical season to date for the first baseman, who has also caught and played DH.

Chandler Dorsey, South Florida pitcher

Consistency out of the bullpen remains a target for Johnson and his coaching staff. Adding Chandler Dorsey, a reliever from South Florida, certainly fits the mold for what they were searching for. Dorsey made 26 appearances for the Bulls last season, throwing 30 innings and holding opponents to an .180 batting average. Dorsey gave up 13 runs off 20 hits and struck out 41 batters.

Paxton Kling, outfielder

This move was expected. Sophomore Paxton Kling started the 2024 season as a starter in centerfield for LSU, but plenty of struggles at the dish led to his dropping out of the daily lineup. Kling has started 61 games the last two seasons in Baton Rouge and was one of the better high school prospects in the 2022 high school recruiting class. He managed a .222 batting average, good enough for second-worst on the team, with a .409 on-base percentage, which was fourth-best among players who played more 16 games.

Samuel Dutton, reliever

The first big piece out of the bullpen to hit the portal at this point this offseason for the Tigers. Dutton pitched a ton of big, meaningful inning late in the season and into the postseason and pitched well. The right-handed junior recorded the fifth-most innings from LSU's relievers at 27⅔ and compiled a 5.86 ERA with 29 strikeouts. He allowed 19 runs off 32 hits and walked just six batters.

Nic Bronzini, reliever

Bronzini is in the portal after his freshman season at LSU. The lefty was not called on for much action in 2024, managing six appearances , pitching 4⅔ innings while giving up three runs off five hits along with eight strikeouts. Bronzini had a 5.79 ERA.

Cam Johnson, reliever

To most, Cam Johnson entering the transfer portal is the most shocking player to leave to this point and the one that hurts as what he has projected to be has been something the LSU staff and fans have been excited about. This season, Johnson appeared in 13 games, finishing the season with a 12.00 ERA. He gave up 12 runs on just five and struck out 13 batters, thanks in large part to his electric fastball that topped into the mid-90s.

Micah Bucknam, reliever

Sophomore right-hander Micah Bucknam appeared in eight games for LSU; only three pitchers on the roster appeared in less games. He recorded a 7.00 ERA as he gave up eight runs, seven earned, off 12 hits and three walks along with 10 strikeouts. Bucknam lasted two innings twice, one of those coming against Vanderbilt. He pitched in three SEC games.

Aiden Moffett, reliever

As this season progressed, sophomore Aiden Moffett seemed to pitch his way into more responsibility. The righty earned 16 appearances and performed decently. Moffett tallied a 5.60 ERA, which was middle of the road for the pitching staff and a better number than Nate Ackenhausen, Samuel Dutton, Justin Loer and a host of others, but obviously in fewer innings. Moffett tossed 17⅔ frames and surrendered 11 runs off 18 hits and 12 walks with 21 strikeouts.

Austen Roellig, infielder

Roellig redshirted last season and did not play in any games for LSU.

Derrick Mitchell, outfielder

Mitchell redshirted last season and did not play in any games for LSU.
