Team Penske's Josef Newgarden wins IndyCar Series race at Bommarito Automotive Group 500

Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden picked up his second win of the IndyCar season on Saturday night at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis.

Four races remain in the 2024 IndyCar season with Alex Palou still out in front in the championship standings. Newgarden sits in eighth.

Final: Josef Newgarden wins the Bommarito Automotive Group 500

The top three remained the same coming out of the yellow flag. However, with five laps to go, Linus Lundqvist passed Colton Herta for third place.

Josef Newgarden, the two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, held off Scott McLaughlin to win the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Lap 250: Crash happens right out of yellow flag caution

Coming out of the caution, there was an immediate crash. Alexander Rossi went airborne. The red flag is out. Eight laps remain.

Josef Newgarden leads, Scott McLaughlin is in second, Colton Herta in third and Alex Palou in fourth.

Lap 239: Caution flag comes out again

David Malukas and Will Power made contact. The yellow flag came out with almost 20 laps to go.

Scott McLaughlin still leads. Josef Newgarden is in second and Colton Herta is in third.

Lap 197: Scott McLaughlin is back in the lead

Scott McLaughlin took the lead when Sting Ray Robb pitted. Josef Newgarden is in second and Will Power is in third. Aka all Team Penske cars.

The yellow flag came out on Lap 196 after Josef Newgarden spun around on his own. He avoided contact.

Lap 158: Will Power is in the lead

Scott Dixon was in the lead, then Nolan Siegel passed him. Siegel pitted, which put Will Power back into the lead during Lap 148.

Marcus Ericsson pitted and was told to turn the car off when he got in the pit stall.

Lap 139: Marcus Ericsson is the new leader after pit stops

Marcus Ericsson took over the lead after a few drivers pitted. Scott Dixon is in second and Nolan Siegel is in third.

Lap 89: Caution comes out for third time

The drivers who were at the top at the beginning of the race have found their way back after the pit stops. Will Power leads with David Malukas in second and Scott McLaughlin in third.

Kyffin Simpson went into the wall on his own in Turn 4 on Lap 86.

Lap 72: Pato O'Ward out of race with an engine issue

Pato O'Ward was running fifth before he had an engine issue. His day is done.

Scott McLaughlin took the lead after Will Power pitted. Nolan Siegel then led for a short while. Alexander Rossi was in the lead but he pitted as well. Graham Rahal took over from there in the top position.

Lap 44: Will Power takes the lead

Will Power is in the lead. David Malukas and Scott McLaughlin follow in second and third, respectively. Alex Palou, the points leader, sits in 10th.

Lap 17: David Malukas takes over the lead

David Malukas and Will Power got ahead of Scott McLaughlin. Malukas is in first, Power in second.

Conor Daly spun out after some contact but he stayed on the track for the time being.

Lap 8: Yellow flag comes out after Katherine Legge, Ed Carpenter incident

A yellow flag came out on Lap 8 when Katherine Legge and Ed Carpenter made contact. Legge collided with Carpenter's left rear as they went through Turn 1. Carpenter then hit the wall with the rear of his car. He pitted. Legge is out of her car.

Bommarito Automotive Group 500 to begin on CNBC and Peacock

The race was scheduled for the USA Network, but it will begin on CNBC and Peacock because the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Michigan is still in progress.
