Full race results: Will Power wins IndyCar race at Road America, takes series points lead

The IndyCar Series concludes a 6-week stretch of on-track action with a 55-lap race on the 14-turn, 4-mile Road America road course at Elkhart Lake, Wis. Rookie Linus Lundqvist earned his first career pole position as two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden crashed out at the end of qualifying. He was uninjured.

Scott Dixon won a messy race on the streets of Detroit last weekend and leads the championship race. Alex Palou won the 2023 race at Elkhart Lake.

Will Power wins IndyCar race at Road America, takes series points lead

Will Power leads a Team Penske podium sweep to earn his 42nd career victory and first in two years. Josef Newgarden is 2nd and Scott McLaughlin 3rd.

Power also takes the series points lead, narrowly over Alex Palou and Scott Dixon.

Team Penske's last podium sweep came in 2017 at Sonoma.

Pole-sitter Linus Lundqvist gets hit on the first turn of the race, falling to the back of the field. He recovers to finish 12th.

Laps 41-45: Final pit stops, first for Alexander Rossi (41), then Alex Palou (42), then Scott McLaughlin (43), then Josef Newgarden (44), who gets caught behind a backmarker. Will Power stays out until Lap 45.

Coming out of the stops, Will Power leads Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin for the effective race lead.

Lap 40: Josef Newgarden leads Scott McLaughlin by 1+ seconds. Will Power is 2 seconds behind Newgarden.

Lap 36: Josef Newgarden passes Scott McLaughlin for the lead.

Laps 31-33: Scott McLaughlin passes teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden after their pit stops.

Lap 30: Scott McLaughlin leads by 2+ seconds over Josef Newgarden. Will Power is another 3 seconds back, with Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood rounding out the top 5.

Lap 23: Series points leader Scott Dixon needs to pit after tire issues force him to lose several positions on track. He's 24th after the stop.

Laps 17-19: The lead group makes pit stops, Alex Palou the last among them on Lap 19.

Colton Herta leads Felix Rosenqvist and Linus Lundqvist, but they are on alternate strategies after early issues forced early pit stops.

The effective leaders are Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden and Will Power – all Team Penske. Kyle Kirkwood is 6th among that group.

Lap 15: Scott McLaughlin leads by 2+ seconds over Kyle Kirkwood. Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi and Will Power round out the top 5.

Lap 10 restart: Scott McLaughlin leads and Kyle Kirkwood has to hold off a charging Josef Newgarden for 2nd. Christian Rasmussen gets a stop-and-go penalty for his contact with Simpson.

Lap 7: Kyffin Simpson is off track in Turn 14 after getting spun by Christian Rasmussen. Simpson walks away from his crashed car. Caution.

Lap 6 restart: Scott McLaughlin leads Kyle Kirkwood, and Josef Newgarden passes Alexander Rossi for 3rd.

Lap 4: Caution for debris falling from Colton Herta's car. He and Linus Lundqvist bump each other. Marcus Armstrong and Luca Ghiotto are penalized for Lap 1 avoidable contact.

Lap 3 restart: Kyle Kirkwood can't hold off Scott McLaughlin for the lead.

Lap 1: Linus Lundqvist is spun by Ganassi teammate Marcus Armstrong in Turn 1, and Colton Herta gets caught up. He is nudged from behind by Josef Newgarden. Lundqvist, Armstrong and Herta stall on track. Caution.

Josef Newgarden crashes hard in IndyCar qualifying

The Team Penske driver hits a barrier hard during the Fast Six qualifying. He's OK, but the car will need a lot of work before Sunday's race. Newgarden qualifies fifth.
