Lafayette-area football: Here are the Top 5 performers from Week 3 of high school football

Three weeks into the high school football season and stars from across Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas have begun to shine.

This week was the week for the do-it-all athletes as they passed and rushed for as many yards as they could to help bring home victories. Teams like Cecilia and Jeanerette handled their Week 3 opponents with ease thanks to the elite talent on offense.

While they routed their opponents, Teurlings Catholic, Westgate and Carencro were in dogfights going blow for blow in their Week 3 matchups. The Rebels and Tigers came away with a win while the Bears are still trying to figure out how to close a game out so far this season. No matter the results, these five athletes have shown out and earned a spot in this week’s rankings.

Here is a breakdown of the Daily Advertiser’s Week 3 Top 5 Offensive Players of the Week hailing from the 337.

1. Diesel Solari

School: Cecilia

Position: ATH

Year: Senior

Summary: The Bulldogs meant business when taking on Northside busting the game wide-open in the first quarter. Leading the explosive start was Solari who literally does it all playing as a dual-threat quarterback and on special teams. In the first half alone he scored four touchdowns in various ways.

He connected with senior wide receiver Brent Gordon Jr. for a 19-yard touchdown to kick off the game. Solario didn’t stop there, he ended the half rushing for 151 yards finding every running lane in the Vikings' defense. On special teams, he added a spark as well bursting through for a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown. With Solari and a host of other weapons, Cecilia came away with a 64-25 victory.

2. Devin Duhon

School: Jeanerette

Position: ATH

Year: Sophomore

Summary: There was no stopping Duhon during Jeanerette’s Sept. 19th matchup vs. White Castle. The 5-foot-11 sophomore had his breakout game against the Bulldogs racking up 233 total yards. He ran all through White Castle’s defense proving to be a tough running back to bring down shaking tackles along the way.

Duhon found the end zone five times as the Tigers took the game 48-14. On top of his offensive contribution, as a cornerback for the Tigers, he helped come up with big stops limiting White Castle to two scores all game.

3. Jaboree Antoine

School: Westgate

Position: ATH

Year: Senior

Summary: Antoine has been Mr. Do-It-All for the Tigers the past few seasons and against a tough Lafayette Christian Academy squad on Sept. 20, he remained that guy. The Miami commit made it happen in the air and on the ground leading Westgate to its second win of the season.

He ended the night with 76 yards rushing on nine carries with a rushing touchdown. As a team, Westgate rushed for over 300 yards. At the quarterback position, he was 4-of-9 passing for 118 yards, connecting with his receivers for two touchdowns. The Tigers would go on to beat the Knights 39-28.

4. Alex Munoz

School: Teurlings Catholic

Position: Quarterback

Year: Junior

Summary: So far this season the Rebels' ground game has done the heavy lifting for their offense, but that changed against Notre Dame on Sept. 20. Junior quarterback Munoz took this matchup over finding his rhythm in the air and making the Pioneers pay.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound slinger threw for a season-high 230 yards and two touchdowns. With Munoz leading the passing game attack, Teurlings Catholic handled Notre Dame, beating it 21-10. This puts the Rebels on a three-game winning streak to start the 2024 season.

5. Chantz Babineaux

School: Carencro

Position: ATH

Year: Junior

Summary: The Bears suffered another heartbreaking loss this time against the No. 9 ranked team in Louisiana, Zachary. Babineaux did all he could wearing multiple hats in Carencro’s offense. He ended the night with 30 yards rushing on 10 carries and a touchdown.

As the Bears quarterback, he threw for 112 yards and three touchdowns on a 50% completion rate. The 6-0, 190-pound junior is a constant star for the Bears, who sit at 0-3 so far this season. Babineaux will look to lead his team to its first victory in Week 4.
