The Daily Advertiser Athlete of the Week: St. Thomas More's Beverly Potier
(This story was updated to add new information: Athlete of the Week winner.)
Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas voted and determined the Daily Advertiser's Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 16-22 is Beverly Potier of St. Thomas More girls volleyball. In an online poll that closed on Friday, Potier received nearly 89% of votes cast for a total of 6,592 votes.
She earned this recognition for her consistency in all facets as the Cougar's star middle hitter. The senior is currently averaging almost three kills per set — the most on her team playing a big role in their offense. She led her team to a 3-0 win over Southside last week and has continued to help her team snag dub after dub.
The Cougars are currently 9-0 on the season and Potier is one of the key players leading to the perfect start. Against St. Joseph's Academy on Sept. 24 she finished with a team-high 11 kills, an ace, and two blocks helping the Cougars come away with a 3-0 victory. In St. Thomas More's most recent match vs Parkview Baptist, she helped her team sweep yet another opponent finishing the match with six kills, two aces, and a block.
With Potier and a host of other key weapons, the Cougars are on track to make another LHSAA state championship run this year.
