Kirby Smart updates injuries to Georgia football defensive end Mykel Williams and others

Georgia football heads to Alabama Saturday with opponents still not having scored a touchdown on the Bulldogs this season.

That’s with Georgia missing one of its best defensive players, Mykel Williams, the last two games due to a grade 2 ankle sprain sustained in the season-opening win against Clemson.

If the defensive end/outside linebacker is back for the Crimson Tide, he would play four weeks after he was injured.

“I’m hopeful," coach Kirby Smart said Monday. "We’ll see. He didn’t do much last week. He got a lot of rehab Friday and Sunday and was able to run and do some things Friday and Sunday which is positive. ... We’ll see how today goes.”

Georgia also could get defensive linemen Warren Brinson (ankle/calf) and Jordan Hall (legs) back for the 7:30 p.m. game against the Crimson Tide.

“Warren Brinson practiced last week at the end of the week," Smart said. "Hopeful to get Jordan Hall back. He’s working really hard, tirelessly, doing rehab. He busted his butt all weekend."

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Williams had two tackles — both for loss — against Clemson. The junior had 18 tackles and 4 ½ sacks last season while starting 10 games.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Brinson, a fifth-year senior, was injured in the Clemson game. He had 21 tackles last season with two sacks and 19 quarterback pressures.

Hall, who has yet to play this season, had 10 tackles in a backup role last season.
