Georgia football favored in SEC showdown. Here's the last time Alabama was home underdog

Georgia football opened as a road favorite for its top 5 clash with Alabama on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs are a 2½ point favorite against the Crimson Tide, according to BetMGM.

How rare is it for Alabama to be a home underdog? It hasn’t happened since LSU was favored by 6½ points on Nov. 3, 2007, per Bet Labs. LSU won 41-34.

Alabama won 11 SEC championships and six national titles under now-retired coach Nick Saban, but was underdogs four times previously since 2021.

Three of those games came against Georgia in the SEC championship game last season (+5.5, Alabama won 27-24), in the national championship game on Jan. 10. 2022 (+3, Georgia won 33-18) and in the SEC championship game in 2021 (+6.5, Alabama won 41-24).

The other game Alabama was an underdog since 2021 was the Rose Bowl CFP semifinal game on Jan. 1, 2024 (+2.5, Michigan won 27-20).

Georgia and Alabama are set for a 7:30 p.m. ET game Saturday in a matchup of 3-0 teams.
