Josh Allen injury: Buffalo Bills quarterback evaluated after head bounces off turf
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen took a hit and went into the medical tent against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Allen was brought down by his legs and his head bounced off the turf after throwing an incomplete pass in the fourth quarter.
Allen stayed down on his side, rolled onto his back and was tended to by medical staff. He pointed to his chest and went into the medical tent with trainers and a neurotrauma consultant for evaluation.
The Bills defense recovered a strip sack on C.J. Stroud at the Texans' 15-yard line while Allen was being looked. Backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky came in for one play, handing the ball to James Cook for no gain. Allen returned from the tent, put his helmet on and went back into the game. He threw two incompletions and Tyler Bass made a 33-yard field goal to tie the game at 20-20 with 3:18 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Allen threw three more incompletions in the final minute. The Bills lost 23-20 on a walk-off 59-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn.
Allen said after the game that an independent certified athletic trainer who serves as a spotter in the booth called for him to be checked for a concussion.
"Big shot to the chest. Rolled my ankle," Allen told reporters after the game. "They flagged me for hitting my head, but felt good enough to go back in."
It's Allen's second straight week with an injury scare. He was slow to get up after losing a fumble against the Baltimore Ravens. Allen said after the loss to Baltimore that he aggravated his lower back hitting the ground but he'd be fine.
