Jaydon Blue injury: Will Texas football RB's injury impact Steve Sarkisian playcalling?

Texas football running back Jaydon Blue showed up to his postgame media availability on Saturday wearing a walking boot on his right leg.

Speaking to the press again on Monday, Blue was boot-free.

"I'm good," he said.

Blue acknowledged that he was in pain after leaving the Longhorns' 31-12 victory over Michigan on the second drive of the game. His adrenaline took over, though, and he returned, carrying the ball nine times for 22 yards.

On Monday, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian was asked whether Blue's status would impact his playcalling when the Longhorns (2-0) take on UTSA (1-1) on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN).

"I don't know if it'll affect the play calling itself," Sarkisian said. "I just think we have to be mindful of the runners."

Sarkisian praised Quintrevion Wisner and Jerrick Gibson ‒ who combined for 66 rushing yards against Michigan ‒ for their efforts last weekend, while noting that the Longhorns will need more from Ryan Niblett, who is transitioning from wideout to running back. He didn't carry the ball against the Wolverines.

"We've got enough people and bodies, but I just think we need to be mindful of the amount of carries each guy's getting in the flow of the game and what that looks like," Sarkisian said. "We'll see how Jaydon does as he continues to go and get himself ready to play Saturday night. But the good thing is we know what we have in (Quintrevion) and Jerrick."

Reunion upcoming for Trey Moore of Texas football

Texas edge rusher Trey Moore will face his former team on Saturday in an example of an oddity made normal by college football's transfer portal.

Moore, a native of San Antonio, holds the UTSA single-season record for sacks (14) and tackles for loss (18) after playing three seasons for the Roadrunners. He made the move to Austin to play for the Longhorns this offseason.

"I think that's the world we live in in college football right now," Sarkisian said. "It is what it is."

Moore has started both of Texas' first two games and registered three quarterback pressures in the win over Michigan.

Sarkisian said he plans to speak to Moore later this week about the upcoming reunion, but indicated he's not particularly worried about Moore's mindset. They'll have a chat later this week, Sarkisian said.

"He's not the most emotional guy," Sarkisian said. "He's got a really good head on his shoulders. He's focused on what he needs to do. He doesn't get caught too much into the stuff going on around him. If he were that way, I'd probably have to talk to him earlier in the week."

Quinn Ewers' nerves of steel for Texas football

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers said he doesn't typically notice crowd noise on the road. But the crowd of 111,170 at Michigan Stadium this weekend made his voice heard.

"That was the first time in my head, I was like, 'OK, woah. It's really loud in here,'" Ewers said Monday.

The noise didn't leave to nerves, though. Ewers doesn't get nervous on the football field anymore.

"The more you feel prepared, the less pressure is (on) you," he said. "I don't try to please anybody else besides Jesus. So that's how I go into games, and that's how I go into my week. Ultimately, that's what helps me. And knowing that allows me to play free."
