With injuries mounting, Memphis Grizzlies sign G League scoring leader Matthew Hurt
Help is on the way for the Memphis Grizzlies.
With a wave of injuries leaving the Grizzlies dangerously low, down to the minimum number of active players needed for a game, the team signed Memphis Hustle forward Matthew Hurt to a 10-day contract on Monday. Hurt will be available for Monday night's game against the Sacramento Kings (7 p.m., Bally Sports Southeast) at FedExForum.
"He's been an unbelievable culture fit, ready to accept any role when he's been with the Hustle," Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said pregame. "Like the size and the shooting that he provides. Defensively he gives great effort, I think he's got some versatility, playing a couple different positions."
The Grizzlies have 11 players listed on their injury report for Monday's game. Vince Williams Jr. is questionable, while John Konchar and Ziaire Williams are listed as doubtful. There were only seven active players not listed on the injury report before Hurt's signing, and the NBA requires eight for a game.
Hurt was with the Grizzlies during training camp and has excelled with the Hustle in the G League this season. He's leading the G League in points per game (25.5) and scored 35 on Saturday night in the Hustle's loss to the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Hurt, who has started all 11 games for the Hustle this season, played two seasons at Duke before going undrafted in 2021.
