Memphis Grizzlies get disabled player exception because of Ja Morant injury | Report

The Memphis Grizzlies have received a $12.4 million disabled player exception because of the season-ending injury to Ja Morant, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Memphis can use the exception between now and March 11, according to the report.

Morant suffered a right shoulder subluxation during a practice earlier this month and was ruled out for the rest of the season. He's expected to be ready to return before the start of the 2024-25 season.

Morant played in only nine games this season, but the Grizzlies went 6-3 in those contests. He was suspended the first 25 games of the season for conduct detrimental to the league.

The Grizzlies have dealt with numerous injuries throughout the season. Steven Adams was ruled out for the season just a few days before the opener with a lingering knee injury. Brandon Clarke has not played as he rehabs an Achilles injury suffered last season. Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard, Derrick Rose and Jake LaRavia have all missed extended periods of time as well.

Memphis (16-27) also received a disabled player exception earlier this season because of Adams' injury. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 8.
