Georgia's Kirby Smart calls out ESPN, says officiating 'tried to rob us' after Texas win
Georgia football made a statement Saturday night as the Bulldogs knocked off No. 1 Texas at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Behind a dominant outing from its defense, Georgia defeated Texas 30-15 on Saturday, handing the Longhorns their first loss of the season and first loss as members of the SEC. It's a performance by the Bulldogs — who were a rare underdog Saturday — that brought a candid Kirby Smart out in postgame during an interview with ABC's Katie Georgie.

"These players get the best out of me. I'm so proud of these guys because no one believed (in us)," Smart said in a postgame interview. "No one gave us a chance. Your whole network doubted us. No one believed (in) us. Then they tried to rob us with calls in this place. These guys are so resilient.
"We talked about intent. What was our intent when we walked on the field? Our intent was not to take pictures. Not to do all the superstar stuff. Our intent was to eat. Our intent was to come eat and be hungry. I'm not interested in all the bells and whistles. What I want is a team that fights their a-- off and they did tonight."

The call that Smart referred to was an overturned defensive pass interference call against Texas in the third quarter. The penalty, which initially wiped a Longhorns interception returned inside the 10-yard line, was overturned by officials after the game was delayed when Texas fans threw trash on the field in the aftermath of the call.
While he did not specifically mention who on ESPN doubted his team, one could point to the entire "College GameDay" crew and guest picker Scottie Scheffler all going with Texas in Saturday's game. The Bulldogs were a 4.5-point underdog against the Longhorns on Thursday according to BetMGM.
With the win, Georgia improved to 6-1 on the season and gives itself a shot at reclaiming its preseason ranking of being the No. 1 overall team in the country in Sunday's national polls.
