Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver suspended by NFL. What we know
Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers updates: Follow all the action in the game.
Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones has been suspended by the NFL for the first five games of the season, according to published reports.
Jones, currently a member of the Arizona Cardinals, was suspended for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy after an accusation that he abused the mother of his child, injuring her neck. He is eligible to return Oct. 7, before the Cardinals play in Green Bay.
Jones was arrested last November in Florida on a domestic battery charge. While prosecutors chose to drop the charges in March, the NFL conducted it's own investigation and deemed there was a violation of its conduct policy, according to Nick Shook at NFL.com.
Zay Jones began career with Buffalo Bills
He was picked by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2017 draft. Jones spent parts of three seasons with Buffalo, hauling in 90 catches for 1,037 yards and 9 touchdowns.
What did the Bills get in the Zay Jones trade?
The Bills traded him to the then-Oakland Raiders in 2019 for a 2021 fifth-round draft pick. They used that pick to select offensive lineman Tommy Doyle, who's had a mostly nonexistent Bills career after a string of knee injuries. He was released on waivers back in June, and after no team picked him up, Doyle reverted back to the Bills and was placed on the team’s Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
How did Zay Jones react to the trade?
Thank you to the all of the Bills staff for your efforts to help better me on and off the field. I could name you all, but you know who you are. And thank you to some special bills fans that I had the fortune to play for & personally meet. I don’t take the time I had for granted.

Zay Jones thrived for a time with Jaguars
Jones spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and posted his best season in 2022 — 82 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns. He missed eight games last season because of knee and hamstring injuries. He finished with 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns.
Bills were set to see Zay Jones again
The Bills would have faced Jones Week 1 when they host the Cardinals at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.
Jones will not count against the Cardinals' 53-man roster while suspended.
