Clemson's Dabo Swinney on Tyler Brown's status for Louisville game, chances of redshirting
CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday that wide receiver Tyler Brown will miss Saturday's game against Louisville because of a left ankle injury.
Brown, who attended Greenville High School, had a tightrope surgery to stabilize his ankle in mid-October after he couldn't "get over the hump." Swinney said Brown has progressed though, going from a scooter to crutches to a cane to not needing anything support.
"Not ready to make (Brown) day to day yet," Swinney said. "He's week to week."
Swinney added there is a possibility Brown, a sophomore, could redshirt. He is at the limit of four games, and it would expire if he plays again in the regular season. Still, Brown could redshirt for Clemson's last five games and play in postseason competition without voiding a redshirt because of the NCAA's new rules.
"Certainly, something we can look at, and it'll be great if we could," Swinney said. "But, it's a real-time decision based on your personnel."
Brown injured his ankle against Appalachian State in Week 2. He returned three weeks later against Stanford to play 22 snaps then 18 vs. Florida State before the team reevaluated him. Brown led Clemson in receptions and receiving yards last year and started for the Tigers in their first two games in 2024.

In Brown's absence, wide receivers T.J. Moore and Troy Stellato have stepped up alongside Antonio Williams to help Clemson's offense average 42 points, the fourth highest in FBS.
