Clemson football's Shelton Lewis injured during first scrimmage | Reports
CLEMSON — Clemson football cornerback Shelton Lewis was injured during the Tigers' first scrimmage at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, according to multiple reports.
Lewis suffered a lower-leg injury and is on crutches, according to reports. The Greenville News reached out to a team spokesperson, who deferred comment to coach Dabo Swinney. Swinney will be available following Clemson's scrimmage at Memorial Stadium on Thursday.
Swinney said this past Saturday that the team had a couple of players "banged-up" after the scrimmage and was awaiting evaluations from the training staff to see the extent of each injury.
Lewis, a sophomore, is battling for one of two starting cornerback positions this season with Avieon Terrell and Jeadyn Lukus. Lewis became a late-season starter last year, recording 10 tackles, nine pass deflections and two interceptions, including a pick six, through 13 games (with two starts).
Lewis' injury comes less than three weeks before Clemson faces Georgia on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP poll and US LBM coaches poll, while the Tigers sit at No. 14.
