Clemson football sets record for most points scored, yards gained in a half vs App State

CLEMSON — Clemson football set a program record for points scored and yards gained in a half against Appalachian State on Saturday.

The Tigers put up 56 points and secured 525 total yards to lead by 43 at halftime. Quarterback Cade Klubnik also set a career high for passing yards with 378 and passing touchdowns with five. He found tight end Jake Bringingstool twice and wide receivers Bryant Wesco Jr., Antonio Williams and T.J. Moore each to lift Clemson.

Klubnik also rushed for a score twice, and running back Phil Mafah erupted for an 83-yard rushing touchdown. Their performance was a part of Clemson's 35-point first quarter, which was the most points scored in the first quarter in school history and tied the program record for most in a quarter.

Clemson was 3-for-3 in the red zone in the half with each trip resulting in a touchdown. It outgained App State 525-199 in the first half.

The record-setting half came after the Tigers failed to score any points against Georgia last week. It was the fourth time in 16 seasons under Clemson coach Dabo Swinney that his team did not reach the end zone.
