Clemson football freshman WRs Bryant Wesco Jr., T.J. Moore score first touchdowns

CLEMSON — Clemson football freshman wide receivers Bryant Wesco Jr. and T.J. Moore scored their first collegiate touchdowns Saturday against Appalachian State at Memorial Stadium.

On third-and-11 on the Tigers' opening drive, quarterback Cade Klubnik hit Wesco in stride on a deep pass for a 76-yard touchdown. It was Clemson's first touchdown of the season after failing to score one last week in a 34-3 loss to No. 1 Georgia.

Freshman wide receiver T.J. Moore scored his first career touchdown on a 33-yard grab in the second quarter. He was the fourth different receiver Klubnik passed to for a score in the first half.

Wesco's touchdown was the longest by a Clemson freshman since wide receiver Tee Higgins' 78-yard score against The Citadel in 2017. It was also Klubnik's longest pass of his career.

Wesco, a five-star recruit from Midlothian, Texas, received 12 snaps against Georgia but was announced as a starter for Saturday's game. He left his mark to give the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.

In the Tigers' first two series, Wesco had three receptions for 131 yards, including a 52-yarder to the App State 1 that set up Clemson's second touchdown, a run by Klubnik.

Clemson set a school record for first-quarter points with 35, which tied the team's record for points in any quarter.
