Clemson baseball will face Florida in super regional after No. 3 seed wins regional

CLEMSON — Clemson baseball will face Florida in the Clemson Super Regional.

The No. 6 overall seed Tigers (44-14) will host the Gators (32-28) in a best-of-three series starting Saturday (2 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Florida advanced to the super regional as the No. 3 seed out of the Stillwater Regional by beating No. 11 national seed Oklahoma State 5-2 on Sunday and 4-2 on Monday.

How Clemson baseball reached the super regional

After taking the ACC's Atlantic Division and winning 40 regular-season games, the Tigers earned a national seed. They went undefeated in its regional, defeating High Point 4-3 Friday, beating Coastal Carolina 4-3 Saturday and routing the Chanticleers 12-5 Sunday.

After being contained in its first two games of the tournament, Clemson's offense erupted in the regional finals, hitting two home runs and scoring six runs in the eighth inning to reach its first super regionals since 2010.

How Florida reached the super regional

Florida won the Stillwater Regional as the No. 3 seed, beating No. 2 seed Nebraska in the first game 5-2. The Gators fell to Oklahoma State next, losing 7-1, but made the regional finals after outpacing Nebraska 17-11 in an elimination game.

Then, the Gators took down the Cowboys in back-to-back games to advance to the super regional.

What to know about Florida, Clemson baseball's super regional opponent

After losing in the College World Series last year, Florida reached the NCAA Tournament this season with a 28-27 record for the 39th time in program history.

The Gators are led by Jac Caglianone, who is projected to be taken in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft. He is Florida's Shohei Ohtani with his ability to pitch and hit at an elite level. He has the best ERA among starters on the team (4.57) and leads Florida in batting average (.410) and home runs (31).

Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan was as an assistant at Clemson for nine seasons from 1999-2007. He worked with Clemson coach Erik Bakich and under Tigers program developer Jack Leggett.
