Buffalo Bills sign speedy wide receiver who had his best season with division rival
The Buffalo Bills bolstered their receiving corps with the signing of two receivers Tuesday, Damiere Byrd and Deon Cain.
Byrd is an eight-year veteran who last played with the Atlanta Falcons.
Byrd played one game for the Falcons last season and he had 13 catches for 268 yards and two touchdowns with the team in 2022. He has also played for the Bears, Patriots, Cardinals, and Panthers since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016.
The Bills are in need fresh bodies at wide receiver after Bryan Thompson hurt his hamstring in the preseason opener and was waived and Chase Claypool was put on the injured reserve list.
Damiere Byrd is fast
Speedy receivers help stretch the field and Damiere Byrd certainly has plenty of gas in his tank. Byrd posted a 4.28 in the 40-yard dash at his South Carolina pro day.
How fast is that? Running a 4.2 in the 40-yard-dash equates to 19.5 mph, according to the website Brainly.
What can you expect from Damiere Byrd?
Byrd has mostly provided depth for teams. He's played in 76 games in career, but only started in 28 of them. His most productive season was when he caught 47 passes for 604 yards and a touchdown for the New England Patriots.
Early in his career, Byrd was a returner for the Carolina Panthers, but he hasn't caught a return since 2021.
What's Deon Cain's story?
Cain has played for the Colts, Steelers, Ravens and the Eagles (twice) since entering the league in 2018, but has started just one game over that time.
