Bobby Witt Jr. grand slam leads Royals past White Sox

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s not often you see an individual singlehandedly take over a baseball game, but Monday night was one of those rare occasions.

Bobby Witt Jr. continued his domination of the Chicago White Sox with some spectacular late-game heroics.

Royals acquire pitcher Michael Lorenzen from Rangers

The Royals trailed 5-2 in the top of the 8th inning before Hunter Renfroe and MJ Melendez hit back-to-back solo home runs to bring the game within one.

A few moments later, with Royals still down 5-4 with two out, Witt came up to bat with the bases loaded.

On the first pitch, Witt cranked a grand slam to left centerfield giving the Royals an 8-5 lead.

But he wasn’t done.

Witt made his presence felt on the defensive end too, accounting for two of the three outs in the 9th inning to ice the game on two outstanding defensive plays.

“That’s why you play this game, you dream of those moments, so it’s just fun being apart of it,” Witt said after the win.

Witt has been scorching hot in the month of July. He put on one the best individual performances in Royals history.

In fact, there were a nice amount of MVP cheers on the road from the Royals contingent in Chicago after the game.

The win puts the Royals at 58-49, handing the White Sox their 15th straight loss. They will look for the series win tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. Michael Wacha (7-6) takes the mound vs. Jonathan Cannon (1-5).
