Royals acquire pitcher Michael Lorenzen from Rangers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals are continuing to bolster their rotation as the MLB Trade Deadline nears.

The Royals acquired right handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen from the Texas Rangers in exchange for left handed pitcher Walter Pennington on Monday.

This comes two weeks after the Royals traded for reliever Hunter Harvey from the Washington Nationals.

On the season, Lorenzen is 5-6 with a 3.81 ERA, 75 strikeouts and four walks in 19 games on the season. He has 18 starts.

He also was an All-Star during the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Phillies and pitched a no-hitter.

It will be interesting to see whether the Royals make Lorenzen a reliever or likely replace him with Alec Marsh in the Royals starting rotation.

Either way, whether it’s Lorenzen, Marsh or someone else that gets moved to bullpen, it strengthens an area of need for the Royals as they look to make a playoff push.

The Trade Deadline is tomorrow at 5 p.m.

The Royals currently sit in the third AL Wild Card spot behind the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins at 57-49.
