Royals sign 2024 first-round pick Jac Caglianone

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While the Royals were getting set to continue their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the front office and the sixth pick in the 2024 MLB Draft were making news of their own.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Royals and Caglianone agreed to a contract which, according to MLB.com, is worth $7.5M. That number is a little bit bigger than the slot value of the number six pick, which is just over $7.2M.

Caglianone is set to head to Arizona on Thursday to begin his professional career.

For now, the two-way player will only be hitting and will probably play first base, or possibly play as a designated hitter.

However, Caglianone has dreams of expanding his already impressive pitching game to the next level. While this isn’t something every good collegiate pitcher can do, it’s not out of the question for one of the most unique prospects the Royals organization has ever seen.
