Bills work out SEC record holder known as 'The Thiccer Kicker' amid Tyler Bass struggles

The Buffalo Bills may beef up their kicking game. Enter "the Thiccer kicker."

Buffalo brought former University of Missouri kicker Harrison Mevis in for a workout Wednesday, according to Draft Diamonds.

UPDATE: Bills sign former Rams kicker to practice squad as Tyler Bass struggles continue

Mevis, 22, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May but was waived Aug. 11. He played one preseason game, making a 41-yard field goal.

He was a four-year starter at Missouri from 2020-2023, with multiple game-winning field goals, including an SEC record 61-yarder to beat 15th-ranked Kansas State as time expired on Sept. 16, 2023. Mevis is Missouri's all-time scoring leader.

Mevis, who is just shy of 6 feet tall, weighed in at 241 pounds with 30 3/4 inch arms as one of four kickers invited to the NFL combine. That's heavier than every Bills linebacker aside from suspended Von Miller, and tight end Dalton Kincaid. His nicknames are "The Thiccer Kicker" and "Money Mevis."

Mevis ranks fourth in career points (415) and third in field goal percentage (84.0%) in SEC history. He is No. 4 in NCAA history with 89 field goals made and led college football with 26 field goals made in 2021.

Bills kicker Tyler Bass is coming off a missed extra point and field goal in Monday's 23-20 victory against the New York Jets.

Bass has made 84.1% of his career field goal attempts but has connected on 9 of 12 (75%) this season, a career low. He went 2 of 5 in the playoffs last year. Bass has missed two extra points in 2024.

Bass is in the second year of a four-year, $20.4 million contract. If the Bills release Bass he has a $7.38 million dead cap hit.
