Big 12 softball power rankings: Is there a new No. 1 after Oklahoma's loss?

For the first time in more than a year, OU lost.

The Sooners started their weekend in their new stadium in rocky fashion, needing late heroics to beat Miami (Ohio) in their Love’s Field debut, before falling to Louisiana 7-5 in Sunday’s weekend finale.

OU’s pitching was uncharacteristically shaky over the weekend, its defense struggled Sunday, and the Sooners couldn’t hold off the Ragin’ Cajuns in extra innings.

While OU faltered, snapping its 71-game winning streak, the teams right on the Sooners’ heels kept rolling, as Texas and Oklahoma State finished off perfect weeks.

Was Texas’ dominance enough to leapfrog OU in this week’s Big 12 power rankings?

Here’s a look at the rankings heading into the opening weekend of Big 12 play:

1. Texas

The Longhorns ran through their five games since Friday, winning by a combined 51-3. But it wasn’t those five games that lifted Texas above the Sooners — it was two wins over UCLA, and one each other Tennessee, Stanford and Kentucky earlier in the season.

Record: 18-1 (entering Wednesday)

2. Oklahoma

The Sooners could make the leap back to No. 1 soon, but the uncharacteristic defensive woes and pitching struggles in the loss to Louisiana drops them to No. 2 for this week at least. OU could have a chance to get right as they open conference play at home against Iowa State.
