8 thoughts on the Jets' trade for Davante Adams
The New York Jets (2-4) have had a knack for shocking the football world in recent weeks.
After firing head coach Robert Saleh and hours following a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills (4-2) on "Monday Night Football," the Jets have traded for All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.
With such a blockbuster deal, there is a lot to breakdown.
Here are eight thoughts on the Jets' deal for Adams.
Aaron sure does have some pull...
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been known to have some pull... this pretty much cements it. Clearly Rodgers wanted his ol' Green Bay Packers buddy in Adams. The Jets got him.
Is there an odd-man out?
While the Adams addition is exciting for just about everyone... it's not. Someone is going to see less playing time now on the Jets offense. Garrett Wilson won't be the No. 1 receiver anymore, but he's going to play. Allen Lazard has had a knack for getting in the end zone, so he has a spot.
It looks like it's going to be Mike Williams, according to a report from Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, but we'll find out:
Sources: The #Jets are planning to make WR Mike Williams available for trade after acquiring Davante Adams. Williams signed a 1-year deal this offseason and the current receiver room is just too crowded. pic.twitter.com/VXmyyBaK49

Does Adams still have it?
Adams is absolutely a talent. That's why the Jets got him (along with Rodgers' wishes). He's a multiple All-Pro for a reason. However, he is 32 in December.
Adams had 103 catches for 1,144 yards with eight touchdowns last year on a subpar Las Vegas Raiders team. Age is still undefeated. Ask Rodgers. It's just something to keep in mind.
It's not too late... is it?
Fresh off a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on "Monday Night Football," the Jets have a 2-4 record. Is there still time for Gang Green to turn it around with Adams? One game at a time...
Contract
The full details aren't known but the Jets and Adams have restructured his contract according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. His cap hit this year will be lowered but heading into the trade, his contract was guaranteed for 2024 but not beyond that. Adams is currently set to have cap hits for $36.25 million each year and has no guaranteed money in either season.
We'll have to see where Adams' long-term future with the Jets goes.
Compensation is not bad
What the Jets gave up for Adams is a good look for New York general manager Joe Douglas.
Adams fetched the Raiders a conditional third-round pick. It can become a second rounder, but that threshold is so high no one in New York will be upset if that happens. It will only become a Round 2 pick if Adams is named an All-Pro in 2024 or if he's on the active roster if the Jets play in the AFC Championship game or Super Bowl, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
What's it mean for Reddick?
In adding Adams, the Jets will have to pay him. That likely means that Haason Reddick's career with the Jets will be over before it begins. According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Reddick has been granted permission to seek a trade, which is not a shock.
Woody is all in
Not only did the Jets land Adams, don't forget, Robert Saleh was fired as head coach. It's hard to debate: Owner Woody Johnson is all in for 2024. He has to approve any such move and Johnson did.
