49ers place DE on season-ending IR
After starting the season strong with a three-sack performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week one, Drake Jackson's sophomore campaign came to an end after only eight games following a knee injury. Jackson underwent knee surgery while he missed time last season.
Now, Jackson's third season in the NFL will come to an end before it has the chance to begin. On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers announced they're placing Jackson on the reserve/PUP, ending his 2024 season.

#49ers signed S Tracy Walker III to a one-year deal. He practiced today.
In order to make room on the roster, the team placed DL Drake Jackson on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. That means Jackson is out for the season because it happened before final cutdowns…— Nick Wagoner (@nwagoner) August 8, 2024
In two seasons with the 49ers, the former second-round pick out of Southern California has recorded six career sacks and 21 combined tackles, including five tackles for loss.
In a corresponding move following Jackson's addition to the IR, the 49ers signed defensive back Tracy Walker III to a one-year deal. Since being drafted in the third round of the 2018 draft by the Detroit Lions, Walker III has spent his entire six-year career with the Lions. Walker III has recorded four sacks, two forced fumbles and three interceptions in his career.
